"St. George 2009" International Festival for Orthodox Chants

"St. George 2009" International Festival for Orthodox Chants will be held within the scope of "Euro Folk 2009" Musical Feasts - The world is television, which is in different European cities and countries from 3 May till 21 October 2009.

Musical Feasts “Euro Folk 2009” comprise fifteen musical festivals and are held under the aegis of European Association of Folklore Festivals - EAFF.

Main event of the Musical Feasts “Euro Folk 2009” is Festival №1 in Europe of the traditional folk arts – Stara Planina Fest “Balkan Folk”. Every year in the Festival participate from 9 000 to 15 000 musicians, singers and dancers.

Typical feature of Musical Feasts “Euro Folk 2009” is, that all performances are recorded with professional audio and television technics and the best of them will be repeatedly broadcasted by 50 cable televisions in Bulgaria, by the satelite and national cable televisions "Eurocom Bulgaria" and "Heros TV", as well as by the World Wide Internet Television "Euro Folk" at www.eurofolk.com/tv . All this activities realize the main purpose of Musical Feasts “Euro Folk 2009” – The world is television to make popular through the media the traditional folk arts.

Preliminary Program

The fest program includes competitions in the following categories:

  • women’s choirs;
  • men’s choirs;
  • mixed choirs;
  • children’s choirs.

The jury will have the right to ask for partial performance and to interrupt it, if it exceeds the prescribed time limits. Participants, however, must be prepared, if requested, to perform the composition in its entirety.  

During the Festival studio audio recordings and filming of professional video clips of participants' program will be made of the ones awarded by the jury with a free shooting and making of a video clip or against payment.

The program must not exceed 30 minutes.

It is recommendable that participants should consider 3 days stay in order to make audio recordings and video clips of high quality.

The made recordings will be broadcasted by 50 Bulgarian cable televisions and by satellite televisions with European holding, as well as repeatedly on World Wide television "Euro Folk" at www.eurofolk.com/tv

During its participation in the Fest, the group could be invited by the organizers to take part in the common events - official opening, official closing, parade, cocktail or others.

Regulations

The Festival is held within ten performing days and evening concerts. It enables church choirs to showcase their creative projects on an already acknowledged scene, on which is held Stara Planina Fest "Balkan Folk" – Festival №1 in Europe for traditional folk arts. The concert scene of "St. George 2009" International Festival for Orthodox Chants is the Cathedral church “Virgin Mary” in Veliko Tarnovo.

Main task of the organizers is to ensure the creative groups an access to the stage, to gather them in a contest program aimed at defining the best ones, as well as to popularize the award winners of the fest by broadcasting their art in the European TV channels as well as repeatedly on yhe Worl Wide Television "Euro Folk" at www.eurofolk.com/tv.

The participants in “St. George 2009” International Festival for Orthodox Chants have the right to participate with their entire program in Festival №1 in Europe of the traditional folk arts – Stara Planina Fest “Balkan Folk”.

The "St. George 2009" International Festival for Orthodox Chants is organized by Euro Folk Academy, Balkan Folk Academy, the Bishopric of Veliko Tarnovo and other organizations within the scope of "Euro Folk 2009" Musical Feasts - The world is television, from 02.05 till 12.05.2009.

Host of the festival is the former Bulgarian capital of Veliko Tarnovo.

Regulations for participation in the contest

To enter the participants must be accredited, which is realized under the following conditions:

The organizers Euro Folk Academy send invitation and regulations for participation to the interested groups.


Those who wish to take part in the Festival must fill-in and sign application forms, by which they formally agree with the conditions laid by these Regulations.

The application forms should be sent not later than 20.03.2009.

It is desirable that the participants should send at the above-mentioned address of Euro Folk Academy the latest album of the artist /band/ or demo record of not less than two songs. Further to this it is recommended that the request should be accompanied with annotation and promo-materials such as photos. All sent materials are not subject of return.

In case the requests for participation exceed the necessary entries for the contest day, the jury makes a preliminary selection based on the given records and informs in written form all candidates for which day they qualify.

Awards

Grand-Prix  "Orpheus" and a diploma. The award is decided by the jury in accordance with the procedures, set by the members before the opening of the festival and announced to the entrants on the opening day.

Firsts awards "Orpheus" and a diploma in each category. The jruy awards the best performances with a free shooting and making of a video clip.

All award winners /participants in the second round/ are granted with a Diploma as laureates of "Euro Folk 2009". The awards are granted on ceremonies during "Euro Folk 2009" Musical Feasts - The world is television. 

 

In the opinion of the jury and the producers the best performers and artistic leaders shall be honoured with a Diploma fro obtaining the rank Maestro or Maestro Academic.

All award winners get free of charge a copy of the TV product, which consists their performances, and has been broadcasted in Bulgaria or in Europe.

Participants can order against payment on compact disc, videocassette or DVD the full recordings of their performances and video clips. These products will be with the right of broadcasting in the respective country.

Every group may order the date and the hour when their performance will be broadcasted on the World Wide Television "Euro Folk" at www.eurofolk.com/tv .

The Music program is live. The order of sound-check and performances for each day is decided by the organizers.

Participants do not get paid for their performance.

The deadline for sending the application forms is 20.03.2009.

The jury is international and consists of 3 persons.

Unambiguous text: The artists or presenting organizations, if approved by the jury to participate in the fest, step back to the organizers the right to be recorded on video and audio, arranged in a program, presenting the fest and broadcasted by a TV channel or some other way, for which a contractual agreement will be signed.

 

Accreditations

Each music company or independent producer can send representatives on the fest, in which case the sender covers the expenses for that.

General conditions

A 10% advance payment of the total amount for lodging or board and lodging (calculated on the chosen by the group prices and the number of days to stay) should be deposited  /in EURO/ at Eurobank EFG Bulgaria (Bulgarian Post Bank) - branch Veliko Tarnovo, IBAN: BG97BPBI79311447679001, S.W.I.F.T. BPBIBGSF by 30.03.2009 to Euro Folk Academy Ltd. For example, for a group of 21 people who would stay at a two-star hotel, boarding and lodging for six days the amount comes out to: 21 x 6 x 25 EURO = 3 150 EURO. The deposit is 3 150 x 0.1 = 315 EURO. This amount should be deposited on the appointed account. The discounts will be substracted by the final payment that will be made at the arrival day.

The prices for lodging, which include the festival service are as follows:

  • four star hotel
    boarding and lodging - 49 EURO
  • three star hotel
    boarding and lodging - 35 EURO
  • two star hotel
    boarding and lodging - 25 EURO
  • one star hotel
    boarding and lodging - 21 EURO


On every group of 20 people one gets service for free.

The sender covers all bank taxes.

All filled in and signed applications will mean acceptance of the terms laid by the present regulations.

The registration of the participants on their arrival in Veliko Tarnovo will be held at the Palace of Culture and Sport “Vasil Levski”.
